To make this a reality, Samsung has outlined a strategy that will see a majority of its TVs become ‘next-generation functionalities’ over the next few years. TVs that can be so much more than just a screen. TVs that can become a gateway to the smart home and help users control everything in their home with voice commands and one-touch access. TVs that can be used as a security camera, a home theater system and a gaming console, all through the one device. TVs that have a full-stack of built-in IoT sensors that can be used for a variety of smart home applications. TVs that are truly intelligent and equipped to take on the future of TV. We’ll take a look at how Samsung is bringing about this transformation, and discuss the benefits and challenges for the entire industry.
What is a NFT TV?
Simply put, a NFT TV is a television that can do everything. It’s a TV that can be used as a source of information and entertainment, interact with the physical world, act as a home control hub, and much more. There are a few different technologies that could bring about this “intelligent television” future, but most notably, it’s the work being done with smart TV apps that could transform the way we use our TVs. The Nucleus TV platform is a TV-content distribution platform developed by Samsung together with Trustedmedia (a joint venture between Samsung and Comcast). The aim of the platform is to give TV providers a simple way to give their subscribers access to a wide range of premium content and services.
The Nucleus platform gives TV providers a way to offer their subscribers access to a large catalog of premium video content, including movies and TV shows, without relying on third-party apps or websites. Instead, this content is stored on the built-in hard drive of the TV and could be viewed through the TV’s built-in web browser. The content could also be controlled with the TV’s remote control, using functions such as Play, Pause, and Next. The Nucleus TV platform is currently only available in the United States, with launch partners including Comcast and Charter.
With the launch of the NGF TV platform, Samsung also launched a new open platform for delivering and consuming digital entertainment called DTV. DTV stands for “Digital Televisions.” The DTV platform is built around the concept of “Smart Content.” Smart Content can be found, acquired, and experienced on multiple devices through One Single DTV Gateway.
The DTV platform is designed to make the digital entertainment experience seamless, allowing viewers to seamlessly move between different devices to access or experience the same content. The DTV platform also aims to make it easier for content creators and partners to deliver premium experiences to consumers. In this respect, the DTV platform uses a technology called One Remote Control to establish a single sign-on between devices. This means that a viewer can sign into the same account on different devices, unlocking premium content and experiences on each device.
Next-Generation Functionality (NGF) TV
Samsung has been working on the NGF TV platform for some time, with the first models equipped with the platform coming out in 2017. As more and more people adopt voice-controlled assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Home, the demand for voice-controlled TVs will only grow. Samsung’s solution is to equip its TVs with an Alexa chip, making them first-and-foremost voice-controlled entertainment devices.
By integrating Alexa, Siri, and other voice assistants directly into the T.V. remote, users can simply say “search” or “play” and then ask their TV to find content or start playing a movie. The voice-controlled experience can be further enhanced through the use of an Assistant speaker, which can be mounted on the wall behind the TV.

Boon or Barrier?
